Pie's Battle Mage PVP Guide

Battlemages are one of the most interesting classes in my opinion.
Powerful in Team PVP, and awesome in PVE. Battlemages are one of the few second job classes that don’t have an infinite combo (if someone has discovered the infinite combo, tell me). Basically our whole strategy evolves around STALKING. STALK an opponent while they are combo-ing, and swoop in for a kill.

Skills
The following skills should be added accordingly:
FOCUS LV.5 – great skill, adds MATK and INT, increases damage by a significant result (I used to hate this skill because of the cathead, but you can toggle it by going to MENU> OPTIONS > MISC > and ticking the box View Helm)
SLOW HEAL LV.5 – makes you a HP tank. Brilliant skill. While the opponent’s HP is going down, your HP will rise. And rise. Depressingly. Cast this at the beginning of each battle and every time you are given a space to cast.
If you have spare skill points max Magic Enhancement, the more damage the better!

Ignore Self Heal for PVP, wastes too much MP.
Don’t even look at the Point Buster, Air combo, and Meteor fall tree, bms have a lot better AoE skills.
Neglect relaunch. Battlemages don’t need to air combo, it’ll give the opponent a chance for aerial recovery and a roll away.
Fortress is a hindrance too, do you really want to turn your head into a huge cannon? The reason why Fortress is horrible is the amount of Skill Points that you need to pump into it, the two passives need to be maxed to make it useful. It’s also ugly.
Keep MP potion maximisation at level 1.

Mana Shield Lv.3 – The reason why I didn’t add it to level 5 is because of the skill points it consumes. Mana shield helps a lot with defence, us bms are very fragile in HP so we really need Defence. Also looks good. Having a huge green circle orbit around you is intimidating.
Ball lightning LV.5- AWESOME SKILL SPAM IT. Ever since the ‘next big expansion’ Ball lightning has had a cooldown of 3 seconds at level 5. When someone is coming close to you, use ball lightning to menace them and immediately go into blizzard.
(Passive) Energy Condensation LV.5- makes ball lightning hit A LOT. You definitely want this, it makes ball lightning so satisfying.
Magic Missile LV.5 – even though it requires time to charge, 10 homing missiles (they only home if the opponent is in front, so don’t expect the missile to chase your opponent around the map) cause a lot of damage. Knowing when to start charging and when your opponent is coming towards you is something that requires practise, yet when done right it is probably the most annoying part about battlemages.
Tornado LV.2- nice damage, though doesn’t do much. You could probably use it as a cool finishing move. Keep it as a pre-req for Blizzard.
Blizzard Lv.5- ICE SNOW ZOMG great damage, has a 40% chance of freezing at level 5 and annoys opponents the most.

Cloud Kill and Deadly poison should be ignored. They don’t really do much damage and its slow to cast.
Battle hit is super slow and annoying, but it is a pre-req for Staff Mastery. You can choose to get battle hit and then maximise MATK, or ignore it and save Skill Points.

Class Specifcs
Knights : An annoying class in PVP.
Team Matches :Though (in my experience) easily destroyed in team matches. Sneak up on them in team matches and blizzard/ ball lightning them. I prefer using blizzard first in team matches, as it freezes multiple opponents. After the knight recovers, RUN. Then find him combo-ing a team mate again and repeat. Add in the Magic Missile if you want.
1v1: If you can avoid it, don’t 1v1 a knight. Their stun lock starts off with Sword Dance, a very fast skill which is hard to evade. Their revenge is easily negated using slow heal, but impervion will allow them to run through Ball lightning unharmed. And their shoulder tackle makes an annoying noise which reminds me of a cat in agony.

Gladiators
Team Matches: Annoying AoE stun. Can catch you unawares. If you see a glad charging up their stumblebum, BALL LIGHTNING, blizzard or RUN. When you see them in their storm blade sneak in a ball lightning underneath, a blizzard and then a magic missile. Their Bro skills are fast and annoying, so if you have a chance, try to aerial recovery away.
Single Matches: err.. Battle mages aren’t that strong at 1v1ing a Glad. Their skills can chain. My advice is to run and spam ball lightning and slow heal.

Hunters: Wolf Rush.
Team Matches: Hunters with a CRITICAL damage build are really annoying to fight, yet they can be combated in team matches. Don’t get in front of hunters, their Wolf Rush is instant and annoying. I noticed they have an infinite combo, but most hunters don’t really seem to know this, so I won’t reveal it for now. Their standard combo is Wolf Rush > AAS > Arrow shower > run up to opponent >Wolf Rush… This combo normally wont work if you roll away from AAS and don’t stay in line with the hunter. When you see them coming up to you, immediately cast Ball lightning and jump away. Then combo them. When you see them aasing a teammate, many hunters are slow to realise they are doomed from blizzard. Blizzard them.
Single Matches: Avoid. Wolf rush is annoying when there’s no one to save you.
Rangers: Gatling Rush.
Team Matches: Again, sneak up on them while they are using AAS or gatling. Don’t get caught in their gatling, it immobilises you and shaves off Hp FAST.
Single Matches: Again, avoid.

Acolytes: AHA, A HEALING CLASS.
Team Matches: Avoid getting in front of them as well as you can. Their two skills Frog and Flasher are both instant and getting flashed by an old man will result in a long row of damage digits. When they are damaging a team mate try to freeze them, though this is an imprecise art. Not quite sure how to combo them to death.
Single Matches: If you’re feeling arrogant or brave you can try a single match. Basically run around as much as you can and try to use the ground lock on them. Don’t let them run away.
Battlemages
Team Matches: A pain in team matches, as you should know. Basically, just avoid all Ice and Electric that you see. Sneak up on them.
Single Matches: Battlemages don’t tend to 1v1 each other, lol.

Assasins:
Team Matches: Annoying is the way they shadow walk. Their Swift attack knocks you down. If you see a sin heading towards you after Swift Attack, roll away as their daggers usually follow. Sneak up on them when they are aerial frenzying, by casting an ball just as they fall. Then combo.
Single Matches: Usually not a good idea.

Jesters:
Team Matches: My PVP partner is a jester, and I think jester and bm is one of the best team combos ;D The main idea in fighting a jester is to stay far away from their AoE attacks. When you see a rocket punch heading your way, jump up. When you see them comboing a team mate, start off with blizzard and then ball lightning. Magic missile should then finish them off.
Single Matches: Instant Death to the BM.
